If I could play my favorite casual game on my Apple TV, I wouldn’t have to break out my Xbox so often. With Apple hardware rapidly advancing, I could see Microsoft allowing their most popular IP to run on the competitors devices, for the sake of friendly competition, like extending a hand to shake with Apple, even after that whole cloud gaming debacle like a year ago. Casual gamers will have access to the most popular game of all time on devices they already own, and they’ll no longer have to justify spending $300 on a console that they may not use very often. They’ll always keep their closed system, but perhaps they’re listening to the growing community of people that love MacOS and wish they could play do more with it.įor example, Minecraft Bedrock edition is releasing on ChromeOS in the near future, which strongly hints at the game getting native MacOS support, and even a return to Apple TV, which would be a huge leap in a push for gaming on Apple hardware.
Once they’re done with the move to USB-C, they might really go in on their software. Granted, I have no idea beyond the surface level on how compatibility works, but on the surface, the future of Mac gaming is looking particularly bright. They’ve been adding basic support with most of their software since the launch of the App Store, but since they made a big showcase on The Witcher 3 for their Silicon chips, it raises some expectations beyond music things like gamepad support.
